TMPS for both summer and winter wheels
My question:
If I have two sets of wheels - four for summer and four for winter, Do I have to get the tpms programmed in, every time I swap tires? I had to do so for my Lexus.
Does jaguar store 8 codes or, like lexus, only 4 codes?
Also, has anyone had good experience with tpms units from tire rack or other aftermarket sources?

I have a set of VDO TPMS that I was going to use for this purpose (VDO is the same as OEM, or so I was told). I tried programming them at an aftermarket shop with no success, the dealer may have been able to do it but I didn't want to spend any more money so I switched in my old ones instead. I'll likely list them for sale in the next few days.

I was on chat with tirerack. i asked him about tpms for lexus and jaguar.
He said that for lexus, i would need to go to a dealer or to a tire shop to have the tpms codes entered into the car.
But for jaguar, he says that if I drove around for 15 mins, the jaguar would automatically pick up the tpms codes.. Is he correct?
Here is a link
which says the same thing.. that it would automatically pick up the codes.
I am very hesitant to buy wheels from tire rack. I saw some bad reviews online.

I have a set of VDO TPMS (same as OEM) for sale if you're interested. $120 shipped, for SWB cars only.
I ended up hauling my stock wheels to the shop to have the stock TPMS switched into my new wheels. Everything now works as it should.

Really? What year XJ do you have? I was told that every set needed to be programmed in on my 2011, with the computer only allowing one set at a time.
I have a 2011 XJ SWB with 2 sets of wheels. The winter set are Polished Toba wheels with OEM TPMS and the summer set are OEM Takoba wheels with aftermarket TPMS from Discount Tire. I did not get the TPMS fault when I swapped wheels this past spring at Discount Tire.
If they were swapped at discount tire, they might have programmed the tpms in? Did you put in the winter tires now?

But please be sure to post your comments after swapping.
And if you ever decide to sell one set of your tires, let me know.
You probably don't need winter tires in IN!
