Default TPMS question...

while driving tonight for dinner got a message pop up alert saying "tire pressure monitor system fault". parked at restaurant got out and inspected all tires and they seem to be all inflated. when we got home i checked tire pressure and made sure all 4 had 50psi per specs on tire. still getting message and been riding with this tire pressure since delivery of vehicle. has anyone else experienced this?

I haven't had the issue but if it hasn't gone away by now you may have an issue with your TPMS. You should probably take it to the dealership.

Nope, that does not sound normal. Problem with TPMS to be supected. Back to dealer.

Not that it has anything to do with your TPMS issue, but isn't your ride pretty stiff if you are running 50 PSI? 50 PSI is the MAX tire pressure that the tire supports, but your recommended pressure is around 32 PSI. You can find the recommended pressure on the plate at the bottom of the B pillar when you open the driver's door. At least on my car it's 32 PSI, but yours could be different. I'd be very surprised if the recommended pressure is 50 PSI and have never seen any car with that high of a pressure (other than the compact spare tires)

50 is too high! Go with the numbers on the door pillar sticker or in the manual!

32 PSI all around is where you should be--tires will look like they need more air, but do not.

When you have a low tire, a "car" icon comes up in the tachometer display that shows which tire needs attention. I know this because I have a small nail in my left rear tire and I need to fill it every few weeks and the display lets me know when. Unfortunately, there is no readout of the actual tire pressure in each tire, which would be nice.

dropped the pressure to 32psi in each tire and drove around for a few miles and message cleared out.

Out of curiosity, did you notice any difference in your ride after lowering the tire pressure?

Do you think that's why you had failure because you where at the Max limit of the tire pressure?

That is exactly what I was thinking. The TPMS probably "read of the charts" and correctly send warning about incorrect tire pressure. After all, its designed to warn about "incorrect" pressure, not just low pressure. Did its job.

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that the TPMS fault message came up on my XJ this past weekend. I took it in to the dealer and it turns out there is a TSB for this issue. They ended up replacing all four of my tire pressure sensors. If yours is the same issue I had, there is a message logged that may still be there even though you no longer see it displayed.

Has anyone here purchased a 2nd set of TPMS sensors? About to buy another set of wheels and want to buy another set of sensors for the new wheels rather than take the ones out of the original wheels but not sure how the car handles another set of sensors.

My lexus has a switch to change between an A and B set of sensors that need to be programmed by the dealer.

Also, anyone have experience w/ aftermarket sensors? I found a thread here with a link to Rock Auto that carries the tpms sensors but on two different frequencies (315 MHz and 433 MHz). Not sure how to tell which one is needed.

My tire pressure monitoring system fault message has come up a couple of times when it was extremely hot outside. No problems with the tire pressures and after turning off the car and the tires cooling down the warning disappeared (I have the same problem with the sensors on my Kawasaki Concours 14--I think these sensors don't like really hot temperatures and it makes them give false readings). My dealer did not mention a TSB for this and they always do any outstanding TSB's when I take the car in for service which I just did last week.
