Question Turbo Lag?

I just test drove two 2014 XJLs, both US 3.0 V6 AWD with similar mileage.

The first that I drove appeared to have a distinct turbo lag when putting my foot down. I'm used to my NA 4.2 V8 in the X350 at the moment, so it was quite pronounced to me.

The second car I drove didn't appear to have the same lag (or the same duration). Is it possible that I was getting used to it, or is that lag an indication of some kind of issue on the first car?

Any thoughts and insights would be appreciated.

Thanks,

M

You might want to post in the relevant forum.

I did not think the 2014 US 3.0 V6 had a turbo charger? I thought there was a supercharger version which of course has no lag.

yeah the 3.0 is the supercharged version, which shouldnt have any lag. If you did experience it, it could indicate an issue with the car. I dont know if the V6s have the same Dynamic and Sport modes as the V8SC, but you definitely would want to make sure you compared apples to apples and had both in the same mode(s).

In the UK we do have a 3.0 turbo but it is diesel powered, no lag in mine and the benefit of amazing torque mid range for overtaking. Also have the dynamic and sport mode for even quicker response. 0 to 60 in 6 seconds and although supposed to be limited to 155mph there was a guy on you-tube that took his to an indicated 167mph if I remember correctly.

Mass. emissions? Cannot recall if Jaguars are 50 state or not. Made the mistake of buying a CA emissions Tahoe years ago. It refused to fuel up on part throttle and if you nailed it there was a distinct delay to check if you meant it.

Could be as simple as low grade fuel in one and the ECU holding back on power.
