I have the lower pulley and I installed it from the top. Very easy install.
I did read several threads before to get the details.
Be sure and use thread locker on the Torx bolts. Also spend a bit of time cleaning the old thread locker out so things fit together better.
I ran a tap thru all 6 holes of the crank pulley to clean them up. Makes it much easier to install the bolts.
I wanted to post 2 tools that will make it quicker too.
Cable Clamp Pliers are needed. Anywhere from $20-$50.
Also consider the Gearwrench 3680D. It's a very good tool for less than $40.
Gives so many options and angles to get those serpentine belts off. With the long handle I finally have enough leverage to hold the tool with one hand while I use the other to dis-mount the belt.
This is another tool you can get by without BUT once you get it you will very much appreciate the vast improvement!!

Good to know! Did you pull the intake to install or go from underneath for the crank pulley? Trying to figure out if I were to do this which takes less time. I guess only trying it will tell me lol.
what year is your XJ? Have you done any PMs for the timing chain tensioners?

What did you need the clamp pliers for??

Thanks for the advice. I used to design cooling systems so luckily I still have some hose clamp tools which have been overkill...until now.
Sounds like getting the intake off and not the boxes will be the way to proceed, appreciate both your feedback and usage. Just got my first blackstone oil analysis back and look forward to seeing how it trends before/after.
