Default Very Minor Accident

2016 XJ Supercharged.

Well, I guess she's not new anymore...

Stopped at a red light, heavy traffic, the guy behind me hits me, barely a tap, I was stopped, he couldn't have been going more than a few miles per hour. Right in front of the traffic cop directing traffic near a construction site.

We pull into a nearby parking lot, the traffic cop calls another cop over to exchange papers. I see what is at best a minor scuff on the bumper, nothing else appears damaged and the backup camera works fine.

I wouldn't be overly concerned if this were another car (kind of wish I took my Wrangler in to work today), but not so with this car.

The scuff might just buff out, but I'm concerned about sensors and other damage behind the bumper cover. I just started the insurance process, but if anybody has been in a similar incident, what is the process you've gone through? Did you take your XJ to a dealer for examination, or how did you find a shop with sufficient expertise to work on an XJ?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Maybe post a picture? But from your description I think you will be OK? Sounds like a minor bump as you posted.

Good point clubairth1, I should have included the picture (I haven't even had her a month, I'm a bit rattled).

Anyways, as you can see it's barely a scuff, I can feel it in the paint when I run my finger over it. Very minor, my concerns are what may be behind the bumper skin.

You should be fine. The crash bar and associated sheet metal will not deform if the bumper isn't deformed (based on 50+ years of test data in vehicle mfg I have seen). I would have to see some very convincing modeling to convince me otherwise.

I would clean with a light solvent like GoofOff or GooGone to remove any transfer, and then maybe touch up if you saw fit.
I'd be super miffed too if I had just acquired a vehicle like yours.
