Default Wear Sensor Bypass

Dear all

im hoping someone could help me.

i have a Jag xj 2014 model, and the Wear sensor light has come up. i am looking to replace all pads as it will be the first time and i want to make sure all are good.

however, there sensor are a pain and i would like to bypass them whilst replacing the pads. I regularly check the pads to make sure all is ok which i do with all vehicles.

does anyone know if it is a simple short circuit that can be bypassed or does it read any resistance?

the plan was to strip back the old sensor, connect the wires together are heat shrink protect them.

anyone tried this?

Much appreciated.

Rav

You're in the wrong forum for a 2014, which is a current production model.Have a look for the XJ forum in the "Jaguar Models (current)" forum. Our cars on here don't have pad wear sensors !

Hi Rav,

I have moved your thread from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the X351, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your '14 XJ.

I know for certain that on earlier Jags it was simple to bypass the brake pad wear sensors by cutting the wiring harness, soldering the two wires together and insulating just as you describe. While I assume the same will be true on your '14, it would be worth measuring the resistance across the terminals of one of your pad sensors before you do your modification just in case the ABS Module expects to see some resistance. If so, you could just wire in a resistor of suitable value.

Cheers,

Don

You can just short it at the harness connector. Cut your old sensors off and use the pigtail to short it and use a bit of adhesive-lined heatshrink to seal it.

Why though? The sensors are easy to access and replace and they come with the new brake pads so there is no extra cost. I don't understand why you would want to omit them.

X Dave, thank you for your reply

Brembo Brake pads doesn't come with sensors. You have to buy them separately. Euro car parts sell them all separately.
