Default wheels

I consider myself a very good, careful driver. I have had many vehicles with all different wheel and tire set ups. Does anyone else find that the wheels on the Jag stick out a bit and that if you just touch a curb instead of the tire rubbing the wheels get rashed?

Yes. The car is so long that you really have to make a conscious effort to avoid curbs.

I parallel parked my XJL SS yesterday morning for the first time. Nerve racking for sure.

Maybe the next gen will get a 360 degree camera system.

It has nothing to do with the wheels themselves sticking out from under the fenders. I think the wheel positioning on the XJ is just about perfect.

What the problem is the new trend in installing these extreme short-sidewall tires. In order to keep the wheel from bending every time you hit a pavement joint, they had to make the tire sidewalls nearly straight and very stiff in order not to allow it to compress enough for potholes to damage the wheels. With older wheel/tire setup, with taller sidewalls, we actually used to have a curved, bulging sidewall that did two things: provided a softer ride by absorbing road imperfections better and stuck (bulged) out enough from the wheel rims so it was the first thing that rubbed when you brushed up against a curb.

With the present trend with low and straight sidewalls, touching a curb is a big no-no and results in immediate "curb-rash".

Thanks for the education. Now I know that I hate run flats and the newer short side walled tires.

You just do best to stay away from ALL curbs and anything that may contact the rim. The alloy in rims are very soft too and it doesnt take much to mess them up.
