They should put a little sticker on the sun visor just like the one for the air bags that say"CAUTION ROOF POPS MAY SOUND LIKE GUNSHOTS PLEASE USE CAUTION"

Man, it sucks that some of you are having this roof popping noise. I haven't heard a peep but my car also has less than 3K on it. I just hope mine was fixed right before I picked it up. All I can say is glass roofs are not going anywhere and it is likely how Jaguar implemented it.

My 1st xj had about 3000 mi on it when I gave it back the roof pops started at about 1000. My new car has about 2200 mi and popping started at 800 mi.
It can't be coincidental two cars have the same issue.
I believe they all will do it. What will it sound like at 30,000 mi a tin can?

Default New roof tsb WORKS

I had nearly given up in digust. Dealer installed latest roof noise tsb. The new one. Its like a completely different car. Unbeleavable. Not a single noise. No pop, crack, creak, rattle. Simply nothing. And i tried everything to provoke it. May be they finally nailed it. Love the car again. Almost like i got a new one again.

I just picked my car up yesterday after having the TSB on the roof done. No more popping... However, yu can hear the bushings or whatever plastic pieces they use to secure it, rubbing the metal. It's a ton better, but I suppose since I am already sensitive to the noise, it is still a tad bothersome. It does feel like a new car though since it doesn't sound like baseballs are being thrown at my car by someone.

That makes me wonder if the tsb fix was executed correctly be tech. No rubbing or anything in mine. I used a stethoscobe even to check. But yes, as in any car wit a glass to metal body setup, there needs to be some movement allowed. May be yourvears are better then mine. I tell you, i am equally sensitized after that roof noise debacle. Hopefully this subject will quieten down around here as that would mean it is finally a non issue.

My VIN is low 13000. I've had my XJL for 10 months. The popping noise just started. The dealer just installed or replaced washers according to the TSB addressing the problem. I don't foresee the noise returning. It's just a matter of separating the two metal surfaces (with special washers) that were binding and stressed during times when the car frame is torqued, like turning into a driveway. The problem is where the sunroof cassette is attached to the car frame. If the cassette was spot welded in instead of screwed in, you wouldn't have the noise. No problem... just solutions. No need to throw the baby out with the bath water!
