Manually close roof illustration
In some posts I have read that to close the roof it's only necessary to open the petcock and pull it closed which I believe to be incorrect. Others state that the rams must be manually released before doing so.
Somewhere in this vast world or forum I recall seeing a drawing of exactly how to access and release the rams. Can anyone direct me to same discussion and drawings? I am already familiar with releasing the pressure and how to eventually latch.
Thanks.
Sam

Thanks! I saved the file. I have never had to use this procedure, but my guess is my time will come.
Question, does this procedure raise the rear windows as well? If not, do you know the procedure for that, given that rain may be why the top has to come up.

[QUOTE=motorcarman;1302846]All this info AND MORE is in the large file download area that nobody looks at.
Thanks for the link, Bob, but I already have this file. It doesn't address the issue of whether the rams need to be unlocked or not -- some say they do-- nor does it illustrate how/where to unlock them.
Does anyone have the definitive answer to this ram question?

The rams do not lock. The hood frame does have a 'lock' in that the hinge point that prevents the top from being OPENED easily must be manipulated to prevent BENDING of the frame, but closing is as straight forward as the TSB describes!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sam, sorry to say I have not seen the diagram you describe,. from my experience, you do not have to lock the frame rail to pull the top up. You do however need to lock the frame rails to operate the rear quarter glass and get rid of all the dash warnings. This is as long as the power systems are working on your top. It is good practice in case of emergency. If you can pull back the top interior head liner behind the quarter windows you can see where the rams attach to the top frame. Lets say in the fully top up position, the two connected rails should be at a " L " shape or 90 degrees. If you manually put the top up, you end up at 89 degrees. I take a stick for leverage push upward on the forward bracket to end up at the 90 degree. All light go out, rear windows should work, car thinks all ok. Going down is opposite. pull the L shape rail down to the 89 degree area, then as you describe allen wrench , etc. Hard, hard to describe. If you pull that interior head liner out of the way it may make sense. Hopeful this is helpful. Rich

I am attaching my procedure in closing the roof manually for you.

In order to get the windows to go up electrically is a little difficult. The windows will go up when the right ram is locked into position because it has switches that must be satisfied. To do this you must push up on the ram linkage (do not force or bend linkage). I will attach a link to show you what the linkage looks like but my arrows show the procedure to open or unlock them to lock them push in the opposite direction of the arrows now remember you must do both rams and the windows will go up electrically. This locking of the rams lock the roof into position so it does not bounce on the windows as you are driving. You can close the windows electrically by pulling the window relays left and right and short out the power to them but I do not recommend that.
