Default XJ 351 Rear Ride Height Sensors

Hi All.

Had to have my rear subframe replaced for the MOT on my 2011 XJL. Sourced one 2nd hand from a 2017 model, cleaned it up and had a garage fit it.

They called me to say I needed new ride height sensors as the captive nuts had seized. I was ready for this, as the sub frame had them fitted when I got it and they had sized. I removed the for cleaning. Didn't want to chance it as I thought mine would be ok.

Got a pair from Amazon and the job got finished.

The car is sitting about 15-20mm higher than the front, which is more than I think it used to.

There are 2 part numbers for the ride height sensors, 8W833C279BE and C2D16582. My car has C2D (6 pin) ones fitted but the subframe had 8W8 (3 pin) fitted.

Does anyone know if there is a difference in measurement on the arms? I tried to fit the 3 pin ones today but the plugs are different.

No warning lights or error messages. Car drives fine, just higher at the back.

Tried to calibrate with SDD but it fails for some reason. Could I have faulty sensors?

Any and all help is always appreciated.

Thanks for the response.

my car has the wiring for the 3 pin but the subframe had 6 pin sensors.

I was concerned the physical measurements of the arms were different

I tried to fit the 6 put they wouldn’t plug in although they fit on the subframe fine.

The 3-pin and 6-pin types are completely different. Your car needs matching 6-pin sensors. Those cheap Amazon ones are often bad right out of the box.

Get a proper set of 6-pin OEM sensors and a calibration with SDD. That should sort it out.
