XJ - rapid relay clicking issue
Hello, I am new to this forum.
I've searched through the XJ posts and didn't find a similar problem to mine.
Several months ago, soon after starting the car, there would be a rapid relay clicking sound coming from the rear seat area, while this happens I would lose my sat radio signal. When the clicking stopped the warning light for the adaptive headings would light up on the dash. I brought the car to the dealer and they did a software update and that solved the warning light issue but did not totally solve the clicking noise, so I brought the car back and they monitored it for a couple of days. Although the battery voltage seemed to be reduced a little, it was not enough to warrant a new battery. I bought the car CPO two years ago and the car now has 50K miles (2014 model year). I believe it is the original battery. The dealer suggested a new battery but could not say if that would fix the issue. I took the car back home and the problem did not reoccur for almost two months. Last week the clicking issue started again sporadically (no warning lights on the dash this time but it does impact the radio). So I'm wondering if this is a battery issue and maybe it just needs to be replaced, not sure. Has anyone heard of this? If this is an issue that would be covered by the CPO warranty I'd like to get it done.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance. Ken

Does not sound good, i would be finding that relay before it collapses and causes a potential electrical fire or possibly damages other circuits or modules. Get your battery load tested, do not rely on a basic multimeter nominal voltage analysis, after 6 yrs even with low mileage i would be thinking of replacing the cell anyway but thats for you to decide, they are not a cheap replacement, but if and when you do get one make sure that it meets or exceeds the original spec, dont skimp on a quality replacement, the electrics in our vehicles places high drain on the battery and is most prevalent if you are only covering short trips.
Also are you getting dash messages saying to start engine due to low battery? Regardless, my very first action would be to get that relay replaced immediately.

Very strange because in the last few days a member on a UK Jag forum has posted exactly the same issue with his XJ. And the bottom line . . . . no-one knows. His clicking has spontaneously stopped so he's letting sleeping dogs lie for the moment. If he posts that he finds what the problem was, I'll let you know.
My guess: a failed or failing door latch in one of the doors causing a mismatch.
