Default XJL 5.0 S/C - Service / Oil Change - $738.00

Gents. Today was my first time paying for the yearly servicing of my XJL. I was a little surprise to find out the total cost of the service to a whopping $738.00.

What are you guys paying at your local dealership?

Just had my 45k/3yr service and was $406 but did not change wipers as mine were new and working well and in any event i order them from Tire Rack as they are the valeo and last linger than anything else. BTW Valeo are Jaguar OEM

Oil
Oil Filter
Cabin filter
Daytona intake cleaner

Regular price is $509.00 but get 10% off as Jaguarforums member.

I really don't understand why is coming out to that amount. Once I get the service invoice I'll post it.

Just had my XKR in at Stevinson imports in Denver, $590 for 60k mIle service. As far as I know it was only oil change, wipers, and cabin filter. I was outraged.

Did your car need all those other filters? $150 for seat filters.

Why are you going to a dealer vs. trusted independent?

I took a look on Parts.com using the part numbers on the invoice and the MSRP is lower than the dealer charged in all cases, sometimes by a significant amount. The discounted price is even lower. For example, the seat filter MSRP is shown as $54.50 and the discounted price is $42.50.

It was my first time paying for my oil change / service. I did not think much of it and I left town after I dropped of the ride. I'm def getting my own parts next time for my service and going to Jag Repairs in Pompano Beach, Fl.

I went to jaguarparts.com and below are the prices for the same parts. I mean the markup at the dealership is rather out of control.

Prices at jaguarparts.com

1. C2Z15037 Filter. $38.11
2. C2Z6525 Filter. $11.11
3. C2C36093 Filter- Heated $22.09 x 2

4. C2D3670 Oil Filter. $20.47
5. 55259 5W20 castrol Edge $9.09 x 8

Total: $ 186.59

Parts at the dealership $383.00

I know that only saving $200 but I just feel getting rob by the dealership.

My suggestion, in the future, is to ask your service adviser to advise you of each and every service and it's cost they are suggesting you have preformed, before you grant your approval.

Only $200.00? Well lets see, supposing they can rip off, say twenty customers $200.00 each, six days a week, that comes to $62,400,00 a year. No small potatoes.

Let me look up this Jag Repairs. I was literally just about to head to Alpine Jaguar for an oil change!

Excellent advice.

The easiest way to get away with unnecessary work is to lump it into a 'package' (like "60000 mile service") where the particulars are not disclosed at time of write-up.

As specifically what will be done, and why. If they cannot satisfactorily justify the work, say 'no'.

They can charge as much (or as little) as they want.... 'whatever the market will bear'..... for their parts and services. That's not ripping anyone off. That's the free market at work. The customer has the option to say 'no'.

Replacing parts needlessly, however, falls into 'rip off' category as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers
DD

Correction: that comes to $1,248,000.00 a year.

Correction: that comes to $1,248,000.00 a year, at 20 customers per day.

It's not the amount, it's the method, that counts.

I don't begrudge them their handsome profits if they come by them honestly. Besides, how else would they pay for those mahogany desks, marble floors, and ornate chandeliers....and complimentary lattes ?

Cheers

Sorry I'm not into lattes, nor living the good life on my dollar.

I just paid $200 for mine at the only Jaguar dealer in Kansas City (Aristocrat) - basically oil service and inspection. I was surprised by how cheap it was.
