So we were (wife and I) on Interstate 20 heading into Atlanta for a soccer game and the driver in front of me slammed on her brakes for no apparent reason. She said that there were cars stopped in front of her but I never saw any. I slammed on my brakes and just touched her and then a 30 foot truck slammed into the back of me and drove me into the car in front, air bags deployed and we are save and well except for a bruise on my arm and the wife not happy. BTW as I was driving in I was saying to myself the Jag had never felt so good at 123,000+ miles. Tomorrow going to see a 2018 XJR with just under 20k mile on it. The dash cam cought everything .

Reason: Edit typo in thread title
She was very special from factory order and was a truly great car and was looking forward to many more years. I hate having to buy now when cars are so hard to find and expensive. Thanks for the kind notes
That’s the brutal truth told to me by a coworker whose wife was an insurance adjuster. They know most everybody drives like **** even though everyone truly believes they’re a great driver!
A universal truth for everyone as they believe anyone who drives slower than them is a geezer, anyone who drives faster than they do is a maniac!
But the reality is everyone drives too close! Most people act as though there’s some kind of law that you can’t have more than a car length ahead of you; that if it’s empty it has to be filled!
In Canada they put up highway signs to teach drivers that if you want to live through an accident keep three seconds back. That works at any speed, the faster you go the more space you have. That’s not to avoid an accident, that’s just a live through one!
People seem to forget everything they learned in school; especially physics of mass and inertia! All cars weigh thousands of pounds and the faster they travel, it’s physically impossible to eliminate inertia.
Airbags became requirements basically because of driver stupidity. If everyone didn’t drive like a damn ***, there’d be a lot less accidents!!
Jaguars have brakes bigger than most other cars, (As though the minimum required size is going to save them zillions!) unfortunately that means even if you’re able to stop and not hit who is in front of you, chances are whoever was behind you may not!
It’s pretty much impossible because of the way everyone drives, but your best defense is to have a bubble of three seconds in front of you, three seconds behind you and if possible no cars on either side.
It’s great when everyone survives an accident but one needs to ask tjemself: Did I need to follow as closely as I was?? Because one errant piece of metal in an accident can mean the difference between life and death. Instead of shopping for another Jaguar, one could be shopping for a casket for the loved one who died.
This is just to survive an accident! We can’t stop as fast as we think we can!

Sorry this happened and I'm glad everyone is ok, as that's what really matters.
This was definitely one of the favorites on the XJ section.
I think you actually drove it as it was meant to be driven and I'm sure you will do the same with the XJR
Good luck on the new car and post when you receive it please.

I know how you feel, as my wife and I went through a very similar situation, 4 years ago, when our '12 XJ-L was rear ended..........Glad to hear you're OK, and my sincerest condolences over the loss of the car.
Hope the police subpoena her cell phone records? This accident has cell phone written ALL over it!
Glad to hear your looking for an XJR!!
Hope you find the one you want.
Boy you gave me a heart attack with your thread title too!!
Glad to hear your A-OK.

Heartbraking to say goodbye to a Supersport as that model really is the best of all worlds in the x351 line-up: sport + uncompromising Jaguar elegance. Very glad personal injury was minimal for you and your wife.
Notwithstanding what XJsss said, he and his wife are probably not OK. They were involved in a textbook case of whiplash injury, which often takes several days for the upper neck and back pain to begin.
When they collided with the car in front of them, they were restrained by their seat belts and their heads were flung forward. Immediately thereafter, they were rear-ended hard by a semi, which caused their heads to be flung backwards. And when that semi pushed their car into the car in front of them, their heads were flung forward again.
XJsss said he and his wife were OK because he didn't want us to be worried about them. He spoke too soon.
The likelihood of experiencing whiplash following a motor vehicle collision increases with age. As we reach middle age and beyond, our fitness and strength gradually decline, the degenerative processes of the spine begin, and there is a longer history of neck injuries, all of which predispose the body to injury.
In these circumstances, you should get a good personal injury lawyer and a physical examination by an orthopedist who specializes in neck and back injuries.
I cannot say a more heartfelt thank you to all of you for your caring and taking the time to say something.
I will add that at the present time I have put a deposit on a 2022 Audi SQ5 as we already have one and they are a great vehicle and not overpriced in this market. I may return to Jag or Land Rover at a later date when things settle down.
God Bless you all and I'll still be hanging around here till, probably, the last XJ bites the dust.
Wow, my condoleances with this 4-wheeled family member XJsss...we hope to see you back soon with another Englishman, send the German back to Germany please where he belongs...
All the best! Nice wheels by the way...well...you probably don't care anymore.
