Question 1994 XJ12 Alarm System Help

Hello guys, I just joined this forum today but I've been scanning through the forums for help on my car. So I removed the fuse for the alarm system when I was working on the car, trying to find out what was draining my battery, and had my dad start it up. Now it seems like the car is in full alarm mode. After reinserting the fuse and even unlocking the car with the key/fob, it won't start. I believe the problem is the starter inhibitor circuit which shuts off the fuel pumps. We've also tried finding a datalink connector to the car with no success because it use a serial port.

If anyone knows a way to reset the alarm system without a connector, I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. Thank you for your time.

Hi George, don't know if this will help you or not. I have a 91 Sovereign,xj6 which has an alarm problem if the battery is drained or disconnected. When the battery was replaced or recharged the alarm would go off persistently. The usual method of using the key would not work. What I did find to work was to connect the one terminal as normal, and tap the second terminal against its battery post for a second at a time. If the alarm sounded break the connection and tap against post again. It sometimes takes 10 or 12 attempts, but eventually I can tap the connector against the post and all is silent. Making sure I don't break the connection, I slide the connector onto its post and tighten, and all is well.
It costs no money, and worth a try at least.
Richard

Thanks for the reply littleguy, I tried what you said by putting the car in full alarm/panic mode then tapping the battery contact. It sounds like the relay for the fuel pump is working again. So now to charge the battery and see if she'll fire up.

Good luck. I have no idea why mine went weird, but my Sovereign hasn't been fired up for about 5 years, and I chose to do so a few weeks back, and after all this time, I still had to use the same way to cancel the alarm.
