Default Gearbox External Harness.

G'day Gents,

I'm having trouble with my transmission and I'm pretty sure it is to do with dodgy wiring in the external loom from the autobox to the TCU etc.

I've tried sourcing a replacement harness with no luck so my question is has anyone repaired or rebuilt one of these harnesses? If so how did you go about it?

Cheers,
Jeff.

I know that on the XJR6's the trans harness was known to be too short, and if the trans mount was slack it pulled the harness apart. As you have the same g-box, this could be what happened.

Could you search for one from an XJR6?

Rob

G’day Rob,

You are right there is a lot of movement at the rear of the gearbox and the wiring has probably fatigue failed over the last 25 years and 350,000 kilometres. A bit like what happens to the boot/trunk hinge area wiring.

My harness sorta works at the moment so the plan is to get hold of a used one, and the XJR harness has the same part number, pull it apart and rewire it with longer and higher quality wire and then swap them over.

Cheers,
Jeff.
