'04 XJ8 Backup Beeper Inoperative
It was working fine but not now. No audio at all when backing and close to an object. Dealer seems to think the speaker or whatever it is that makes the beeping sound needs to be replaced. If so, can someone advise how to do that, and most of all if this sounds like what is wrong. Thanks.

Switch ignition to position 2 and the gear lever in R. (engine off)
Put your ear close to every sensor and listen for a clicking sound.
The system is controlled by a parking sensor module which is on LHS (maybe RHS in US) of
the spare wheel well.Check that this is not wet and connections are good
also check for water at bottom of wheel well. The speaker is located under the rear parcel shelf and it's a reasonable assumption that it has
failed but it can be tested at the rear lamp wiring without accessing the speaker itself.

All of the sensors are clicking and there is no moisture anywhere. I'm going to assume it is the speaker that has failed. Could you please give me an idea of how to get to it so I can replace? Thanks in advance. Jim
Your speaker could well be the problem.
Sorry but can't give you chapter and verse on the way to get to it
but I think you need to start with rear seat removal (the vertical part).
The speaker is under the trim shelf and on the metal shelf underneath.

A diagram often helps.
The speaker (item2) is plugged into to the module (item1) in the luggage compartment - see the circled area:

Check this connection and follow the harness to the speaker. If you're very lucky, it may be accessible from behind the trim.

I hate to keep bothering you guys but I have one more question. It looks like for me to replace this speaker, I'm going to have to remove the rear seat to get at it. Could you explain on how to do that? Thanks much in advance for your answer. Jim
You need to get your post count up to 10 or 11 before you can download these, sorry. They're in PDF. If you go to the new member section, say hello to other new members just signing up and give them a greeting, you'll be golden after 6 of them or so.
