Default 04 XJR-- "Cruise Not Available"...PLEASE help!!

Hello All,

I just bought a pre-owned 04 XJR with 32k miles on it (USA). It is gorgeous and in great shape, but it has one issue. On the info screen under the speedometer, it has a yellow light warning with the message "cruise not available", and another blinking yellow cruise light on the dash.

I don't use cruise that much, but I have to get rid of these lights or it will drive me nuts. I had someone look at the vacuum hoses, etc., but they believe it is electronically controlled in a module down by the firewall.

I am loathe to drive 1.5 hours to the nearest dealer where they will not only charge me an arm, but possibly a leg. I was hoping someone would have had a similar experience, and this is a quick fix with the right information.

I just spoke to a guy who said this "cruise not available" code may put the car in a "limp home" lower performance mode from the engine management system. But I do not notice any loss of performance.

Any wisdom would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You will need to get the computer read to find where the problem is. I had this happen when I washed the engine off too vigorously one time. It eventually dried out and was okay. It is possible that the sales people washed the engine in your car too.

There is a local guy that has the jag diagnostic computer. I will go to him. Hopefully it will be no big deal. I am gald that was the case with you. THANK YOU for your feedback!!

I did a search for this topic and thought it might be a common issue (like the air suspension fault) but I guess not.
