So it's getting to be time to install my 3rd set of rear brake pads on my 04 XJR. The first time I used aftermarket ones from parts geek and had to grind the edges down to make them fit. They didn't last long and I blamed the fitment. So I bought OEM pads and had the same problem. I had to grind quite a bit of material off the edges to get them to slide into the calipers. Now that I'm coming up on another set, I was wondering if anyone has heard of this. And if anyone knows of a different part number that will fit properly.
Did you remember to line up the little metal dot on the inside pad with the slot in the piston? If not, the caliper won't sit back properly. The reason I know this is because just this morning I replaced the rear pads on my 03 and came across the same issue and figured out the problem quickly enough.
Here is one of the old pads. The pad with the metal dot has to fit on the piston side of the caliper. You can see the mark of the piston on the pad, with one of the open ends of the piston lined up on the dot.
Hello
Are you taking the calipers off or just sliding the pads out? There are tabs in the calipers that space the pads. Held in with a torq head screw. Stuff builds up behind them and pushes them from the caliper. Making the space for the pads smaller. I also shave my pads. I have tried to remove them but the torq screw is not having it. There should be 4 per caliper. If you can get them out you can clean behind them and flatten them out.
