Default 04XJ8, Main Beams Out! Other lights work?

I did some research but could not find help with my particular issue.

2004 XJ8, All lights are working with the exception of the main beams, or main headlamps.

I checked the fuses and they looked good, but I did not replace. Should I replace fuses? Is there a relay of some sort i should replace?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm on a budget this month and need to drive tonight. THANKS!!

Check you have volts at the fuse, then at the lamp. There will no doubt be a relay due to the amperage drawn by the bulbs. Owner Handbook has the fuse box layouts, and I think the relays are described as well.

Don't forget to check the bulbs. I have seen both go out at the same time. It is rare for sure but does happen enough to double check yourself.

This should assist with locating the Relay.
R2 = Main Beam

Thanks for you advice. I am going now to check the bulbs and relay and fuses once more, but not sure I can check the volts with a proper meter.

Love this forum! Thanks.

Fuses and relays checked good. Changed both bulbs and problem fixed. Both bulbs burned out at the same time. Weird.

Thanks for the assistance.

Sounds like you've solved the problem. Could you give us the details on how you replaced the failed units? I've read two schools of thought: a) drop the bumper, and b) don't drop the bumper, but it's harder

I have some photos of 3 ways to change the bulb, check out my garage/albums for more.
