05 XJ8 50k service cost!
Just had my 05 XJ8L in for its 50,000 mile service at my local Jaguar dealer. It didn't seem like they did too much - changed oil & filter, wiper blades, checked car out etc. - nothing exotic and nothing wrong with the car. Anyway, I was in there for no more than an hour and the bill came to $315.00 plus tax with $220.00 of it going toward labor! Is this a reasonable cost for the 50k service?
Average labour rates in the US for dealers is $110/hr. Sounds like they charged you for 2 hrs labour. Some dealers charge the the suggested Jaguar time for standard repairs even it does not take that long. I had my 01 XKR estimated for the 60K service and the dealer quoted me $1300!!
Sounds okay to me. If you look at the service list, there are a lot of checks that take some work to do. This is to be expected if you take it to the dealer, they have to do all the checks on the list. An independent can do less and this can save money if you can check your own stuff.
My 2005 XJ8L went to the dealer for a 35,000 oil change. The suggested rotating the tires, I asked them to replace the wiper blades (they replace the inserts, not the blades), check the pads, suggested the tires would need replacing someday; $225.
