Default 06 deal?

looked online at an 06 xj8 w/4700 smiles. ******* dropped his price from 35 to 30k and purportedly turned down 27k for it. Anything I be suspect of? Can new jags sit for 4 years and not leak or dry out seals?

I bought a 1995 VDP in 1997 -- the car had 1782 miles on it after a two year lease. I bought it from the dealer with Jags select edition warranty and drove it with no issues until about 100k.

That sounds like a great deal --That car qualifies for and I would want to have the select warranty on it.

I believe you would be happy with your deal but please let's not use such terms like ******* .Because we have some good tech guys as well as vendors .They're dealer too and what's worse they may become offended at such words
Thanks

Yes, sounds like a great deal - I'd probably bite.

Only concern I'd have is the air suspension system. This system would have had to have been active even sitting around unused. Do some test drives, exercise the suspension on curvy roads, a couple of diving stops. Start/stop the engine, load unload the back seat. Check for any suspension fault messages.

BTW - even if a suspension fault came up...I'd still bite!

Jeffn,

One way to check the air suspension is to approach the car after it has been setting over night and has not been started for 12 to 24 hrs. Look for a setteling at one corner or one end. If you can't tell, get in, start it up and look for the car to rise up as the air pump corrects for any sag. This is in addition to Stevetechs tips.

If you see the car rise up from it's crouch you probably have a leak someplace. Keep in mind that Select edition warranty does not cover this area. My instinct would be to put this car on your short list even if there were a minor leek or better yet ask the dealer to fix it as a condition of sale.

The only othe tip I got for you is cosmetics. Paint, corrosion and upholstery issues can "hoover up" your bank account like nobodys business.

I had 2 Mark 8's so I'm all too familiar with air suspensions-didn't realize the J's had probs with them but it stands to reason. How ofetn/soon do they need replacing/cost?

I also saw an 08 VDP w/ 4100 miles for 35k-ish so that seems to be the better buy. This other guy turned down 27k apparently and just came down from 3499999999. to 30k.

Regarding the endearment '*******', I have a few dealer friends including another retired Dr and we banter that term around in jest especially relating to other dealers in our French antiques shop.

Ok, now the other end of the speculum, an 06, 2 owner, 93k miles, mainly FL elderly gent over the road, clear carfax, no paintwork, dealer maintained...what to look for and what's ready to go on it? Maybe in the 10-11k price range...
