Default 08 xj vdp warm start then shuts off.

I am new at this site, have 08 XJ VDP. This is my long distance cruiser with 70k miles. Recently after a good drive when I stop turn it off, at a grocery store after 15 20 min. I restart automatically shuts off. I have to rev it up to maintain rpm then will hold. Now I have read several issues but still trying to determine exact problem. 1st key fob not transmitting properly, changed battery. Heard cheap gas maybe cause vapor lock. I use BJs gas, try to research saying that Costco has top tier quality gas among more expensive brands. Maybe fuel pump. Right now I am trying to use up this gas to empty then buy ExxonMobil or other high grade gas. Does my car need recalibrating for winter ethanol blend? Again after car cools off or cold start no problem just after good drive then stop after 15 min issue arises. Any ideas? I am on limited budget and would like to know what it will be before getting hit at my mechanic with the bill. Thanks.

I always like to rule out things that are cheap and easy so changing the gas cannot hurt. I have good luck with Costco gas here in northern California but I am sure your blend will be different. When I need better gas I like Chevron with Techron. I would check your fuel pressure if it was mine. Heat and a weak pump or faulty filter may cause a pressure problem after you shut down and restart when hot. What work has been done to date? Plugs, coils, anything else? Although you didn't mention a check engine light I would still check for any pending codes. Also if you get a cheap tester you could keep an eye on the fuel pressure while starting. You may have an intermittent electrical issue. It cannot hurt to check the ground points. I would be surprised to hear it was the key fob but I do not know enough to rule it out.

You have to stop guessing and read the codes.

Publish them here then people can help

A Jaguar specific reader is a MUST.
EsRay has a newer, version of the one i have.
Bang for the buck a great choice for a reader.
When i get the extra cash L O L, i will pick one up.
That way an icarsoft, in each Jaguar, avoiding the car to car.
Having an older Launch, still a very good reader.
Presently they get switched, keeping one in each car.
The Launch just can't read many of the Jaguar specific codes.
Or test many of the modules, like the icarsoft can
But tells the general things, & more, for most all cars.

Hi, no codes or engine light. Now one thing I may do is plug it in right after it happens. But once you take key out restart maintain rpm no lights. No work of any kind has been done. Major at least. The keys I heard may have issues, either low key fob battery or worn keys or tumbler but since it happens when hot, an not do it on a cold start. I will check fuel pressure. Another issue I deal with is air suspension flat as a pancake on 34 or below nights. If day is below 40 I don't use it as it will not rise. Warmer temps no problem and will maintain height but eventually I will replace front struts.

Otto, I had an 08 XJ8 that experienced the same issue. If it is the same as mine the car runs fine unless it sits for 10-15 min after a long or spirited run and then it will start but die. Then if you restart it and hold throttle you can get it to clear and then it runs fine. It also won't happen all of the time. The thing that defies parts being bad is that it always starts and you can get it to clear up with throttle manipulation. If that is the case you won't find any codes. In my case I found it was winter blend fuel. I thought it was a joke at first but came to believe it. The gas stations start to change over to summer blend pretty soon and in my case once they did the problem went away for the whole summer. I literally could start the car on a 90° day after running it hard and it would run fine once Summer came and I had done nothing to the car. I was in the middle of troubleshooting all kinds of things and then ....okay I'm fine now.

There is actually a TSB regarding this that I am attaching here. You might wait a few weeks to see if it goes away once the fuel changes over and see what happens but I know it was the case for me.
