17" or 18" Wheels
In 2004 were the 18" wheels standard or does this distinguish a certain package with options w/18"? I've seen a number of 04s for sale with 17" wheels and thought it odd.
thanks

The standard wheel on the normally aspirated 04's is 18" with 19" as an option. I did a lot of looking before I bought mine and I don't remember ever seeing an '04 with 17" wheels. I believe the '03s had 17's. Hope this helps.
Worldrider:
I have the basic 2004 XJ8 and it came with 17" wheels. I have seen several with this same alloy wheel for 2004. Many do have the 18" but I suspect it was an extra cost option. I have since gone to an 18" after market chrome wheel and plan to use my original 17" wheel and tire sets for the winter months. Here is before and after.

17" "elegant" wheels are standard i believe for both 04 and 05, def 04 though with 18" "dynamic" wheels as J's has were optional on regular XJs and standard on VDP, 18" wheels were standard for all XJs in 06 and newer
the 18" wheels were a stand alone option im 99% sure, because ive seen plenty of cars with those and nothing else.

Hello,
I just bought an early production BRG 04 XJ8 standard car with 35K mi. It came with the 17" wheels and I'm glad it did. I like the looks, tire replacement is cheaper, and you get a softer ride with the 55/17 series profile as well. The car might suffer very slightly in cornering at the limit but I doubt 99% of us XJ drivers would ever be able to tell. If I had wantedmaximum "G's" at the limit I'd have kept my C5 Corvette and tollerated the harsh ride as well as thegymnastic actto get in and out! I believe that the 18"ers were an option although later production 04's seem to always have them.
