2000 xj8 wont shift from park and all cylnders misfire
Let me clearify.
We bought this car non running. We determined that the fuel pump was bad so we replaced it and the fuel filter. We then found a leak in the thermostat housing. Replaced that and the thermostat. Once running we noticed it wouldn't shift from park and the previous owner jabbed a screwdriver in the override hole and broke the shift assembly. We replaced the entire assembly.
We hooked power to the actuator that engages the lock release and it is still functioning properly. So we thought it would be the brake switch behind the pedal. Pulled it out and it looks as if it is functioning properly. Brake lights work, it just wont switch from park. Now it idles perfectly. We have excellent gas pressure. We replaced the mass air flow sensor.
So i decided to manually bypass the shift lock." did it right this time by barely touching the override switch. Drove it around the block a few times and as long as I don't press hard on the gas it drives great. If i press more than about quarter of the way on the gas, It starts making the " BOP BOP BOP BOP" like its backfiring and either starving for gas or air and having trouble running. As soon as i let off the gas it drives perfect again. We were able to get codes to finally pop up " had to get the motor warmed up, about 10 trips around the block at 25 mph" and it was....." p0300 - p0308...all 8 missfires. also p1316 no dtc definition found, p0102 mass or volume air flow a circuit low input. p0112 intake air temperature sensor circuit low input. and p1000. no dtc definition found.
I am becoming irritated as we already replaced the mass air flow sensor. Because it still isn't shifting from park, and how it is running i was told it might be the body processing module"BPM" I pulled it and there are no burn marks or frayed wires going in or out.
I will accept any help i can get. Thanks
Scott
