My 2000 XJ8 L is making a bad metal to metal grinding noise and shaking a bit on the back wheels. Got it towed to the shop and they say my wheel bearings are eating into the rotors, the brake pads are metal to metal and my tires are showing metal. All needs to be replaced, front and back. They quoted me $3,500. Not a happy camper I really dont think the car is even worth much more than that.

Anyone have a step by step proceedure on how to replace all this? Going to the Used Jag shop in Dallas.

The guy said he has front and back Spindles without rotors, Calipers w brake pads. I've reassembled this on my 77 CJ7 before and wasnt as hard as I thought. Is this something I can replace by myself?

 

I understand the brakes and tires, but I would double check the need for hubs and bearings, though. It's highly unlikely you need bearings at all 4 corners. And, unlike brakes, there is no need to replace the bearings on both sides if only one goes bad.

 

And also transfer your post to the X308 forum. This one is for the aluminium-boded cars from 2003. Your car is the X308 series and is very different.
