Noise/Vibration when revving engine (in neutral or drive)
Hi all,
There are a huge number of posts on here regarding noise/vibration, but I can't seem to find this exact problem.
When the engine is revved (whether in gear or not), there's a raspy, grinding, mildly flapping kind of sound and slight vibration. It's worse at ~2000rpm.
Because it happens even in neutral, I think anything from the transmission back can be eliminated. There is absolutely no loss of power or problems shifting. The car performs flawlessly.
Could it possibly be the torque converter? At idle, the car also has a slight roughness/vibration you feel through the seat. Wondering if maybe that is an engine mount. Not sure that would cause the noise though.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Chris

could be an engine mount, you'll have to visually check it. Lots of these fluid filled mounts get 'torn' from the engine torque on, I believe, the driver side. (can't remember which way the engine 'pulls', sorry)
There are also a bunch of heat shielding, and it could be touching any number of things. On a cool day, get it up on stands, and look top and bottom for the elusive rattle/vibration.
Also, it could be your idler pulley. If you pull the belt off for a quick run of the engine (obviously do this when engine cold) that will eliminate it as a source.
