2003 xj 76k miles @$8300 +/-?
I am an owner of a 2004 x type and an ex owner of a 2001 Nissan pickup truck that was just totaled by a redlight runner. I am OK.
We need a second vehicle and my wife likes the jag and we do not seem to need another truck. The above car is for sale nearby. I do not know anything about the xj and I have not yet seen the car.
Assuming that the car is in good shape visually, is there any thing I should know about the model, reliability, reputation, etc? And is there anything I should look at for indications of problems.

In the US market, the 2003 was the last year for that body style with the more squarish roofline. The '04 is the first year of the all aluminum model.
I only have anecdotal knowledge of the "older" XJ's. Some early models had issues with: Cylinder liners, timing chain tensioner/guides and transmission. I believe the '03 is clear of some of these hurdles. Here's a good post from our forums from years ago:
