Hi, I have a XJ8 X350 and this morning we had snow. Started the car and Def button lit up and R heated screen. I hadn't noticed before
but there is also button for F screen. I had a look at the screen and it only seems to have an element for the parked wipers.
The button which is half of the Def button does not illuminate and I didn't notice any thawing of the wiper area. Any thoughts?
Peter.

Hi Peter,

if your car has the heated front screen, you should be able to see vertical heating filaments, like here in the picture that Pete M. posted in another thread:

The filaments are much thinner than the ones of the rear heated screen.

Normally, only cars that have the heated screen also have the button for the front scren.

If you can only see filaments for the parked wipers, the functioning should be explained in the owner's manual (whether they work with the button, or automatically).

Might be worthwhile to check the fuses, here's the location(s):

The location of the fuses is also described in the owner's manual.

I hope that this helps.

Best regards,

Thomas

Thanks Thomas, I do have a fuse at F7 but no filaments in the screen. The wiper parked defrost worked this morning, it comes on
with rear screen automatically at low temperature.

Good to hear that the matter is solved, and it explains why the button for the heated front screen does not light up.

The only mystery remaining is why the car has the button for the heated front screen, normally it should not be there... ;-)

Best regards,

Thomas

There is a rumour that only windscreens with wiper park areas are available.

I don't know about other parts of the worls, but that does not apply for Europe, or Germany. I had a crack in the windscreen some 2 years ago and it wasn't a problem to get new heated screen.
Best regards,
Thomas
