2004 Jaguar PS Fluid Spec
Hi Guys,
Getting further into my XJR I went to check my PS fluid. I'm aware spec is Dexron 3. Anyways, PS fluid seems thicker and looks light to moderate brown. Now my observations are based on Dexron 3-fluid.
Don't laugh but almost looks like/smells like LG6.
No PS issues whatsoever. Actually, the steering on this car is the best I've felt in Jaguars.
So, "if its not broken dont fix it" but I was curious on the fluid color nonetheless.
Now in my other X350 I put the PS liquid fix in (thick, Amber colored from memory) and I'm wondering if that might be the reason why the fluid is on the thicker/Amber brown side.
I can of course perform a flush but want to gather some feedback first, thanks!

It's notable that with all the advice on engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and engine coolant and how often to change them, that power steering fluid and final drive oil never get mentioned.
The original fluid was Dexron III. The unit is produced by ZF, and it's spec was fluid such as Mobil's DEXRON III with an anti-foaming additive. Since that is no longer available in the US market, Bosch (the owner of ZF) currently specifies TE-ML09 appropriate fluid as;
Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) based on mineral base fluids according to former Dexron IID, IIIF, IIIG or IIIH specification by General Motors. The closest, or better said the most appropriate in the US market is one like MOBIL Automatic Trans Fluid D/M
