Default 2004 Jaguar Question

I was wondering if anyone else experience this.

I have a 2004 XJ8. When I drive over bumps, (not all, depends on the bump) or some uneven payment, I get a wiggle or reaction in my steering wheel. Kind of like a vibration. its quick and goes away fast. Now this happens only on certain uneven pavement of over certain bumps.

Now, I have had everything replaced on the front end. I was told its a common thing with the air suspention cars. My 97 Jag never had it but it also didn't have high PSI airbags either.

Any others have this or felt this?

I have an 05 XJR and have never experienced your problem. How many miles on your car?
Have you had the power steering rack bushings looked at?
Have you considered that it may be the tires? There is a condition called trammeling/nibbeling related to tires.
Have you id'ed a specific patch of pavement that allows you to reproduce the problem at will? This could be important as you do the process of ellimanation.

Do keep us posted. This could get interesting.

I have an '04 Jag VDP. Upon purchase, I noted about 1/4" of play in the steering. Having come from a Mercedes, I found this disconcerting. I had the suspension and steering reivewed and was told that this is normal and related to the air suspension. I admit that I took the dealer's word for it, but have NO idea how steering play is related to suspension. I don't notice this so much after these few years of driving.
Another issue that was resolved under warranty was that the right front ABS sensor had an intermittent fault that lit up the ABS Fault light and DSC Fault light on the instrument panel when I drove over rough patches of road (rumble strips, etc).
Not sure this helps, but wanted you to know that you were not alone.

When you talk about play are you saying what I am saying about the bumps and such?

Yes, as well as daily normal steering.

I don't have any issue just driving. Only when I drive over some bumps or some uneven pavement I will get like backlash in the wheel.

I have an 04 XJ8 and the steering wheel is solid over any kind of bumps. No shake, no bounce.

You should be bring it to an independent Jag repair shop to look at instead.

Timely post for me... I have a '06 XJ8 with 63,000 miles. I noticed this "vibration" or feedback to the steering wheel coming on a couple months ago. When the car goes over an imperfection in the road, the steering wheel is jerked, minimally, to the right or left.

I had a 1989 MB 560SEL that did a similar thing. All suspension bushings checked OK, but the steering dampener was shot. It is a strut that is attached horizontally to the tie rods to take out vibrations in the steering. For now, until I go to the garage, I'm assuming that is the problem with my car. Unless you are a spirited driver and take the corners hard, I can't believe the bushings or rack would be worn.
