I have had my XJ8 in storage during pandemic out in Ca. ( My own garage) and had someone running car less then couple miles once a month. Yep - dead battery after a few starts and depleted starting amps ( battery was new 3 years ago) . My question - I plan to R&R battery when I get back to Ca. with XJ8 spec replacement from O'Reilly .. I am familiar with the trunk layout - and realize it will be a pretty heavy lift out. What I need some guidance on is how is this battery vented to the outside ? - Are their connection hoses as one battery tech mentioned, or is there a passive vent like a opening not seen from above. Does any one have any jpeg or pdf pictures of the battery removal.

Data from battery store suggests professional install recommended - however with car in garage - I would rather not flat-bed car out to my regular jag mechanic if possible.

There is one in the Workshop Manual which you can download from the sticky "How To" at the top of this Forum. The pictures you need are in the Electrical Section.

 

There is a clear hose, attached to the battery, with a piece of plastic.
The hose, then goes through a hole, in the floor of the trunk.
