Default 2004 XJ8 WIPER PROBLEM

My cars wipers wont return to the off position they shut off and stay at almost vertical. I noticed this morning as we were driving that they were hitting pretty hard on the return cycle and then they stopped returning to that postion.
It was on the auto postion.

any ideas or anyone had this problem before?

thanks

It is a pain in the butt to change, so you would be charged accordingly.

I see this is an old post, but in case anyone is following up . . . Is the wiper motor the only option? Mine just started doing this yesterday. Everything works, fast speed, slow speed, delay, auto mode, they just 'park' in the wrong position. Started doing it yesterday when I was driving home in intermittent rain. Because the showers were so intermittent, I had the wipers set to auto mode. Then suddenly they just stopped in the middle of the windshield. I thought they must have blown a fuse and started fiddling with the switch. Nope, everything works fine, they just 'park' in the middle of the windshield.

I now have the same problem. Did you hear if the motor was definitely the problem?
Thanks,

Default Wiper Woes

Remove plastic cap where spigot connects to wiper arm.

Slacken nut and set arm to correct position.

Tighten nut and "Bob's your uncle"

Yes, in my case it was the wiper motor. Apparently there is some adjustment that can be preformed to the park position and sweep range - after the dealer charged me $800 to 'install and adjust' the new wiper motor, I had to return for further adjustment as the wipers were still parking a bit high on the windshield, but they were able to correct that while I waited.
