2005 xj8l transmission
Hello, I am new to this site but need some help please. I have a 2005 xj8l with 130K miles and the transmission seems to be slipping. Right now the issue shows up between 20 - 30 mph only when you accelerate fairly fast. Local mechanic said it is a transmission problem but he can't fix it. I guess my first question is could it be something minor? Second question would be asking for advice on where I could get a used transmission with some warranty on it. Any help is really appreciated. Thank you

Hi jo48708,
I have had good success resolving issues like yours by flushing the fluid (or draining and refilling 3 times) with Motorcraft Mercon SP or ZF Lifeguard 6, then clearing the Mechatronic adaptations, updating the firmware to the latest version, then driving the vehicle to complete the adaptation drive cycle. Clearing the adaptations and updating the firmware require a Jaguar dealer-level system such as IDS or SDD. You might call around to local European repair shops to see if one in your area has the capability to do this programming.
If the above is successful, it would then be prudent to replace your pan/filter and the sleeve around the electrical connector, but this could be wasted money if your transmission has an internal malfunction so I replace the pan/filter and connector sleeve only after first resolving the shift issues.
Cheers,
Don
