one more note: this may update the firmware on your navigation to 9.03 or 9.3 (I dont remember what the screen said).

The screen will show a progress bar to show you the progress. Once the progress bar hits about 95%, it will stall. just wait for it. it will take another 5 minutes before it is complete.

It scared me when I installed into my car, but afterwards, everything works perfectly.

Has anyone sucessfully downloaded and installed the update in this thread? I'm a little hesitant to install because of the firmware update - I don't want to brick my nav system. (2004 XJ8 Vanden Plas - still has original DVD dated 2002 it came with) Thanks!

Thumbs up

Ok, so I downloaded and installed last night... and it worked perfectly! The firmware update took less than 5 minutes. Thanks to sixpackd for posting the links and directions!

It worked great for me too! For any one around the Chicago area this has the 355 extension.

I spoke to soon. The Jag nav wouldn't allow me to input an adress and I removed the disc to insure it was clean. Now the system keeps telling me it's not a maps disc.

I used a macbook. Built in program I thinks it's call Disc Utility. I think on Windows a good program is Nero. Just make sure to burn at a low speed.

Sorry to hear that. I been using mine since last week and works great. USed it yesterday to find local pizza hut. Try doing it again and burning slowly. Could it be the disc maker made a bad one?

I also found the reader in both my X and XJ8 seem to be very sensitive to the manufacturer of the DVD. I literally burnt through 20 or so DL DVD's before I found a combination that worked.

Nero 9 and Memorex Dual Layer DVD burnt at the lowest speed my DVD would burn (4x) worked fine when I backed up my original NAV disc....

The XK uses different Nav Discs to the XJs in this XJ forum!

A .rar file is similar to a .zip file so you will need to get something to unpack them, e.g. Winrar.
