I'd like to ask if the Daimler Super 8 ever came in a 5 seat configuration, instead of the 4 seat layout? How difficult would it be to convert the 4 seat to a 5 seat layout some of the luxuries of the 4 seat layout was sacrificed? I'm thinking of trading my XJR for a Daimler but the 4 seat configuration of the one that is on sale is a problem. Thanks

 

Hi, the Jaguar parts list suggests they were made with a 5 seat configuration, how many of course is another question =. The cheapest way of course would be to find a salvage car with the same colour configuration (not that that is a guarantee of a colour match!) and buy the bench squab, seat back, centre armrest etc off of that. Your next option is to do as above with any colour interior and have the leather re-covered to match. Lastly, you could walk into a dealer and ask them to convert. Although not many parts are required I would suggest this option is likely to be very expensive!

Thanks for the link. That looks like the same colour interior as the one that's for sale over here, except for the centre console and individual seats. Unfortunately finding a scrap one to salvage parts off would likely be difficult and finding the exact colour match probably nigh impossible locally. I'm told that there were only 3 Daimlers sold in the entire history locally and they apparently all had the 4 seat configuration.

I understand that the leather type of the Daimlers/SV8's are different from the normal XJ's so finding a normal XJ to swop in may also be problematic, unless I reupholster the entire car.

On another note, does the SV8 handle significantly differently from the XJR?
