Anyone know what this sensor is used for please. Is it anything to do with Adaptive Cruise Control. Should it be pointing to the left near side or straight forward. Trying to locate the cruise control radar sensor and module but don't know where it is. Not on left side of bumper area as there is just a gap under bumper near fog light plastic cover. Do some X350 sovereigns have no ACC modules. How does the cruise control work if there is no radar? Anyone know please.
Not all X350-X358 have ACC, I would actually state that most of them do not have it, as it was standard only on the top models (here in Germany that were the Super V8 and the XJR) and an option for the others.
So, if your car does not have the module on the left hand side of the car behind the bumper, as described in the other thread, your car does not have ACC, but only the normal cruise control. There is no other sensor.
It just came to my mind that also the steering wheel and the panel where the fog light switches are locsted gives you a hint as to what type of cruise control you have in your car:
Steering wheel: the normal cruise control only has the buttons on the front of the steering wheel as comands for the cruise control. ACC also has a rocker switch on the right side of the steering wheel, similar to the one on the left hand side used for the audio system. THat rocker switch is needed to set the distance ACC should maintain. If the rocker switch is not there, the car does not have ACC. Look at the following picture, the rocker switch is no. 4:
Panel where the foglight switches are located: cars with ACC have an additional switch, no. 22 in the picture below. If the car only has a blank cover there, then the car does not have ACC
There also is a warning light in the instrument cluster that is there only on cars fitted with ACC, but the above is sufficient to see whether the car has ACC, or not.
You can refer to the owner's manual for further details, if you have it. The pictures I have posted are from that.
Best regards,
Thomas

Reason: Additional text.
everything said about the automatic cruise control is right, however the sensor in the picture is the outside air temperature sensor, I believe it serves the air conditioning.
cheers
