Default 2007 XJR Front Suspension

My front suspension is down. I got a suspension fault message. The front was down but not the back. If I turned the car off and restarted the message would disappear and come back on after a few miles. After sitting over night the rear is also down. For the last few months I noticed sometimes when stopped at a light the front would rise up. When I start the car I hear the pump but front and back do not come up. I pulled the front wheels and the struts look intact. The XJR has 98000 miles. My understanding is that the most common causes are leaking struts or weak or inoperable pump. If it was a weak pump why would it come down once up? If it's a small leak why wouldn't it go back up and then leak down? If it's the struts, how can you tell which one?

Get the fault codes read. Front low but not the back indicates maybe a duff height sensor, or a leak from one of the front spring units. The fronts are controlled together by one height sensor. The compressor may be worn too, of course.

Free parts store reader showed no codes.

You'll need a more specific code reader that reads chassis codes. The auto parts store only scans powertrain codes which all start with a PXXXX. Chassis codes start with a UXXXX.
