Default Air bag warning light on momentally

I have a 2004 xj8 with 50K miles. The air bags warning light is on from time to time. I think there might be a loose wire somewhere.

Please pint me to where I can get a air bags wire schematic so I can track down al the wire harness plugs.

I did not paid attention to how many flashes since the wife did all the driving. The light never comes on when I drove it. Go figure.

Hi annamiata,

As you hinted, the flash codes would be the fastest way to diagnose the problem, assuming a fault code has been stored. The light doesn't automatically display a flash code. You have to follow the instructions that begin on page 608 of the Body section of the Workshop Manual, which you can download here:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/4j...+and+Paint.pdf

The flash codes are all associated with a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) with a B-prefix (Body). You can look up additional information in the DTC Summaries manual, which you can download here:

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...03388427,d.cWw

The component locations are given in the Electrical Guide available at the link Sean provided. Some possible suspects include looseness of or corrosion on an electrical connector, issues with the front seat belt buckle switches or the passenger seat weight pressure switch or module, etc.

Please let us know what you discover!

Cheers,

Don

And if it reappears, you want to jump all over this as you appear to be doing.

For folks that don't know, if the SRS (safety restraint system) airbag light is on, your airbags will not deploy in a crash and your belts won't tighten.

You are probably aware that if the passenger is moving around and gets too close

to the airbag then the light comes on.

This is a know issue. There is a unit below where the steering wheel attaches to the column that causes the airbag light to come up as a yellow warning. I forget the name if the unit, but it is no small feat to replace it. Probably an intermitent type issue for most.

My wife finally video recorded the airbag warning light when it was on. It flashed two blinks paused, and two blinks again. It repeated several times and the airbag warning light stayed on permanently.

I am counting as code 22

Jaguar technical bulletin indicates

Driver side air bag fault lower resistance or open circuit, or short to ground, or short to battery

Possible cause =

Connector: FC009, SD013, SD015. Driver side air bag.

Harnesses: Driver seat, Instrument panel

It happened only when my wife drove the Jag. I just found the fault code tonight and will do further investigating this weekend.

Code 22 is what I am showing. My airbag warning light comes on every time I drive, though.

I haven't done anything yet to resolve it, since it doesn't seem to be the main front airbags.

I would be interested in following your progress.

If your light is on, you have no airbags...

No matter how many times I drove the Jag, no airbag warning light came on except when my petite (5'4") wife drove it.... and I realized that she sat too closed to the steering wheel and occasional set the air bag light. I show her how to re adjust seat, steering column, brake and acelate column. I will see if the air bag light will come on.
