air spring questions.
Hi fellow jag owners. Purchased 06 xjr, 22500 miles, currently in storage for winter. 1,At what point do the air shocks begin loosing air, how many miles ? Is it normal for the car to settle over time,& how long before it starts to settle?
2, Any special procedures to follow on start up on removal from storage?
I have been hesitant to join as our cars are winter stored, making it difficult to actively participate in this great informative forum.

From what I have read in this forum you should be ok for a while at least.
My 2005 XJR has 102,000 miles on it and the shocks seem to be good.
I do not know whether any service was performed on them. The Carfax showed nothing. I dont think they could have lasted that long without something happening but I just do not know.
It has been sitting in the garage for over 2 weeks with temps as low as -5 F and the height has remained stable.
I did have a leak on the right rear shock air connector which a slight 1/4 turn stopped. That leak only happened when the temp went below freezing. a while ago.
Incidentally I do keep a CTEK battery charger connected all the time.

At 22.5k miles your air suspension should be OK for a long time to come. Using the car is better than just keeping it in a garage for months on end, but I do realise the US winters are more severe than we get here in England ! FWIW, when I bought mine in Spring 2010, I had to have a compressor in the autumn. Mileage was then about 35k, with car 7 years old. Now car is on 90k so the replacement compressor is much better, or alternatively is on borrowed time !
The early cars seemed to suffer a lot from compressor problems, so maybe Wabco made improvements.

Thanks for the info. I have removed the battery and will keep it charged during the winter months. Temperature this Am minus 16 celcius with snow, overnight minus 26 c.Cars are in unheated storage for winter months, looking forward to return to driving & summer maintenance.

I agree with the previous posters, at 22k miles you should be fine for a while. My car hit 85k miles and just started acting up (top seal of one strut leaking), but only when stored below 30F. Been in my 40F garage and has not dropped one millimeter over several days.
