On my Alpine Audiophile Jaguar factory installed system in my 2005 XJ8L X350 G48653 VIN I cannot detect any sound at all on all my four lower door 6.5" round speakers (mid-base?) even with the volume cranked up and base setting, but all the other speakers, fascia, etc., are working including the rear deck subwoofers.

What is odd is that the mid-bass rears are, according to the schematic, connected to the same wires as the rear door tweeter, and the rear tweeters work, as do the front door tweeters, but the front mid base speakers also have no sound. IF the Head and amp are not generating mid base as in the Audiophile configuration, I think those speakers will do what I am finding - no sound.

In my dealer configuration in IDS / SDD v125 (5.03) there is only a selection for a "Premium Audio System" which is only eight (8) speakers, and I am wondering if my vehicle configuration file is incorrect (I have some messages the file is corrupt) to allow the other four speaker amp outputs in the Audiophile Alpine to turn on those four outputs for the door speakers?

The Audio amp has been throwing some "module bypass" codes which IDS says "reconfigure the module" which I have now twice in the past year using only the "automatic" configuration, occasionally I get buss communication faults between the two audio busses. However, if my VCATs file is not correct then "automatic" module configuration may be using the incorrect configuration.

Solutions?
Hi, yes, all speakers pump out decent volumes now.
My problem was a bit more involved as I found out when installing Jagdroid.

Someone had installed a parrot system in my car to listen to music and this is what the junction box was for in the first place.

It took signal from the amp and diverted it to the parrot box first. I had to remove this bypass loom which ran from the boot of the car to the glovebox. Rear seat bottoms and lower door trims had to come off.

I actually had to cut the loom in half between the front and back doors as else I would near of been able to pull it out.

This means I probably didn't need to replace my amp with a second hand unit.

If you are having problems with specific speakers and do not have an aftermarket audio system shoehorned in somewhere it can only be a couple of things:
  1. Failing Amp (they are known to go...why I replaced mine)
  2. The speakers themselves (the coil wires are know to corrode on the back of them, they can generally be repaired)
  3. Wiring, perhaps you have a poor or broken connection somewhere.
My suggestion would be to start with the wiring. Take a multimeter and the wiring diagram for your year XJ, then probe the appropriate colour wire for the speaker your investigating with one probe and use the other probe at the speaker. You can and will need to enlarge your multimeter lead with a long length of wire secured to the probe. The wiring on my car also had writing on the insulation which said what each wire was for, handy if you cant find a diagram online (they are around)

Then, if your wiring is all correct, take a look at the coil wires on the speaker, if you can solder it's a free repair, if you can't, the speakers are reasonably cheap secondhand.

Finally, replace the amp, if you have a 2004 on model, you probably have the fibre optic system for your multimedia, so you can buy an amp from an x type with premium audio, it's the same part with a different number and about half the price.

Sorry, I haven't spellchecked this so if it looks like a child has written it I blame my phone's keyboard lol.

Have fun with it and if you have any questions let me know 😉.

What you are describing is the well-known corrosion issue on the voice-coil wires. Remove the speakers and solder a jumper wires on both voice coil wires and they will [probably] work just fine. (i had one that still didn't, but measured infinite ohms, so it wasn't going to work anyway.)

That makes the most sense since the rear door tweeters work but the Door midrange base speakers do not, at least for the rears and use the same amp channel, and certainly if the voice coils are well known failure issues.

The fronts being separate channels, it is curious though that all four midrange bass door speakers "seemed" to start working when I reconfigured the amp the last time several months ago, but then again maybe it was my immagination since I did not put my ear to each speaker and actually verify.

First I'll go back and let the system re-read the VCATS using the VIN for a new session and see if there is a different setting from the Premium to Audiophile in the VCATS listing I am able to change or possibly dealer add because maybe I used the incorrect audio system configuration, which also makes sense.

Thanks all for the recommendations.

Arrgh. one of my speakers has failed again! I had the usual problem where I was upping the volume because it was getting hard to hear and my first thought was which one has gone now? By playing with the ballance and fade I located it to the drives door. On the plus side I need to take the door card off to replace the wing mirror anyway.
