Any opinions on Royal Purple Racing oil
Hi XJ onwers,
I am getting ready to change my oil in my black beauty 2008 XJ8L jag, I am thinking about using royal purple Racing 51. I have search for 20 minutes. I am not seeing a clear answer. My questions:
1.) has any one had any experience with Royal purple racing 51?
2.) What weight is best?
3.) How often should i change it.
I have search and can not find a clear answer or in depth discussion. i did find a study that had been done and this seems to be a good syn oil. I appreciate any input.

There's tons of discussions regarding 'the best oil' on every car site in the world. Many of these end in arguments and tears.
Here's what I found for your proposed oil:
"XPR 20W50 (Formerly Racing 51) is formulated for running extended periods under extreme pressure and heat. It is used in oval track, marine and drag racing and is very popular in sprint cars, late models, truck pullers and bracket racing. Viscosity typical of a 20W50 oil."
I can't think of a more inappropriate choice. Sorry.
Use the viscosity recommended in your owner's manual. Use the type of oil (I believe dino) recommended by Jag, or go to synthetics or boutique oils like Royal Purple or Amsoil if you feel the need.

Lol. I do tend to drive the car like I stoked it, but not offically racing. I am going to just use the normal royal purple. The racing 51 does have a lot of benefits. But I think it is a little higher end than I need. I will just do as the other Caldoofy mentioned flush with a cheep 5w and the run royal purple syn. Change every 5000. I put a lot of miles on my jag.
