I recently bought a replacement ashtray because I want to replace the useless Sirius in my XJ8. The ashtray surprisingly has a audio input jack already installed, can anyone tell me how it works and where it's supposed to be plugged in?

 

So if I am looking at the picture correctly, there is a female socket in the ashtray that connects to a male 3.5mm jack at the back of the ashtray ? If that's right, where was this jack connected to ? or was it just floating around loose ?

I could guess that your car has (or had) an ACM (Audio Connectivity Module) which does give an aux in and that this socket and extension wire was used to make the aux in more easily accessible ?

 

makes me want to pull out my old ash tray and see if i have one too
