Default Automatic in XJ8L sometimes does not shift into second gear

2005 Jag XJ8L sometimes automatic sometimes sticks in first gear and will not shift to second. I can manually start in second gear but not my preferred driving. is there some electronic switch that needs replacement?

Sounds like your 1/2 shift solenoid is going out and you need to have some transmission work done. probably be a good idea to find a set of solenoids for your car, find a local tranny shop and have them do a fluid change and rebuild your shift block. probably cost you about $1000 total, but the tranny will like you a lot.
