Aux stereo jack none existent?
Hi everyone,
I'm a new member. I am looking to purchase a 2009 xj vdp. I was shocked to learn that it does not have an aux input or a backup camera. I own a 2009 xf and it came with an aux input and backup camera and better sound system than the xj! Shocking for a s class/7 series competitor.
I Have asked several jag mechanics in the Toronto area and no one knows how to put one in.
Any guidance is greatly appreciated

It's a bit unfortunate that the X358 doesn't receive the newer technology treatment that the XF or the XK does, however, modification is always a way to bring these old school tech to a newer level.
Aux input, by default, only appears if you get the rear seat entertainment package (package includes 2 screens on the headrest and a central control unit in the armrest). Otherwise, all model doesn't have it.
Fortunately, there's a way to get aux input, however, you will have to perform some modifications on your front cd player, and depending on which mod you perform, you may or may not be able to use the cd player to output cd audio anymore, but in return, any external sound can be played.
Here's a video of Ben Wilcox showcasing how to do this mod (old version):
Guide (old version): https://sites.google.com/willcoxonli.../jaguar/part-4
Guide (new version): Advanced CD aux-in modification ? JagDroid
The difference between the old and new version is quite a lot, but each of those have its own benefits.
If this is too much work then don't worry
There's an alternative, which is the JagDroid CD-Bluetooth upgrade, performed by Ben Wilcox as well, and you will be able to play external audio, as well as retaining the cd player function.Hope this help.
Tom.
Not shocking at all. The X350 platform XJ debuted for the 2003 model year in Europe when Nokias were king. The XF debuted when the iPhone was beginning to explode in popularity. Same year, different generations they were launched from.
That video was oddly satisfying to watch with a nightcap. Had no idea that solution was possible, and how in the world did he figure that out? Especially the Arduino route? Top shelf home engineering right there. Saving to my list to consider doing soon... semi-suffering with a FM transmitter tucked away in the interim.
