Back Up Camera Install
I would like to have a back up camera installed and was wondering what other forum members have done and any suggestions. I have the Nav and would like to integrate it seamlessly. I don't know anything about the internals of the Nav system and personally don't want to delve into it so I'll probably find a shop locally to do it.
Has anyone done it themselves or had it done at a shop? What are the different options and approximate costs. Anything special needed to integrate the camera to the screen?

A couple of years ago I bought the Navtool product and used that to interface a backup camera to my standard jaguar head unit.
I followed instructions provided on this forum as the instructions that came with the Navtool product were useless as was their support line.
It comes on when I am in reverse and I have a button switch to turn it on whenever I want.
Quite a bit of splicing into the wiring loom behind the Nav player in the trunk was required.

I had just looked into this issue like last week, I'm in the same boat. The problem is most of the threads that talk about DIY get really long and aren't just a nice concise "how to" so you really have to fish for the info, even though I'm sure another member here will paste some of the links to help you out.
Bottom line is you need a NAVTOOL type thing to hook it up and be aware that the reverse lights are opposite to how reverse lights are normally wired (that can be "fixed" to add a backup cam).

The above is the thread that helped me.
I also now use the Navtool product, an Elm327a and an android tablet to show Torquepro gauges on my head unit

This is MarcTMatt in Saint Augustine, Florida, I own a 2007 XJ8 Vanden Plas, that came with an OEM Double Din (large dash Nav. screen) I need help in determining if I can have some one here in NE Florida or somewhere close, do an install of what ever equipment is necessary to accomplish adding On dash screen Back Up Camera + Blue tooth/ for i-phone connection for say Pandora thru existing speakers, is this even possible? or, I was also wondering: if I could find a 2008-2009 XJ8 OEM Counsole thay already has, Radio/GPS/ w/Bluetooth Capabity/ w/ Back up Camera connection?? with the million dollar question, Would this (if found equip) 2008-2009 XJ8 Electronics w/ stated capability, "plug and play"? or match up with my 2007 xj8 wiring? or worst case, could someone direct wire what ever was necessary to make all components work with out screwing up my present 2007 steering wheel controls or anything else on the dash that is presently controlled by the 2007 Radio/Gps equipment? Wow, hope some one understands this. MarcTMatt

Installed a venbox to get BT streaming and anyway have the BT phone module to make/ take calls. Want to add rear camera but haven't gotten around to it. Replacing the head unit entirely with a modern one is complicated because of the hvac controls.
Good luck.

Boy, I want to say thanks to the people that replied to my request to add blue tooth & rear back up-camera to my 2007 XJ8 OEM System.
I have located a Module product by NAVtool that claims to allow this upgrade, but now waiting for my proposed installer to check it out. This Navtool company says it will work for my needs but mentioned some technical info that was over my head, like "Mirroring" and the need for some kind of receptacle that they did not supply. So just maybe I am on the right track? Conversely it sure still bothers me why the Ford Motor Co. who owned Jaguar at the time this was built in 2007, did not provide an up-gradable Nav/Radio Unit, like used in the U.S. Automobiles? I guess the answer from some would be "if you can afford a Jaguar you should be able to buy a New Vehicle, to get the new up-grades". I guess that would make since to a manufacturer who wants to sell more newer cars, but in my case it most likely will prevent me to make my car totally upgraded to the electronic standards of the day, with-out garbaging the electronics of yesteryear. If anyone has any other idea's I am still open to suggestions. Does anyone have anything good to say about Navtool? MarcTMatt
