Dont forget the following from Rayalbars "The NavTool wants 12V applied to an orange wire from the backup lights to cause the switch from Navigation screen to backup camera screen. As has been pointed out before in this Forum, Jaguar wires its backup lights backwards from most cars. Instead of grounding one side of the lights and applying switched 12V to the other side, they apply 12V at all times to the lights, and then ground a wire when reverse gear is selected. So if you connect the backup light wire to the orange wire, you get an interesting result: 12V flowing thru the lamps appears on the orange wire and activates the NavTool switch - so the backup camera is on at all times, except when in reverse! Other posters have used a relay to apply 12 to the orange wire".

I used the relay in one of my pics.

Unplug that connector you show and test the connections to find out what is what.

It s me again
I hope you are fine
Since this morning i try to connect my relay...but once the reverse light has not enoueght power; once the orange light does not work... i connected relay between the 2 lights on red and white wire...
must i connect before the lights ? Or is it somewhere else ?
My camera is working with 2 wifi antena. May be they take too much power ?
Would you have a picture of your relay connection ? Tks so much for your help.

I have put everything back together this morning. I found this from Suprane1 he has a diagram in his post.

It actually has power on both terminals all the time (park, neutral, drive), and when the car is shifted into reverse, one of the hot wires (orange/green at the connector below the assembly) changes to ground to turn it on. I figured out that a relay would correct the problem.

Below, is the relay I used that I got from O'Riellys auto parts for less than 5 bucks.

There are four terminals on the relay marked 30(meaning max 30amps that gets switched on), 85 for ground, 86 for power, and 87 that goes to camera (and the radio). So I hooked it up like this...

From the connector I spliced into a wire that was hot all the time when the key was on, the first one which is brown/green and wired it to 30 (for power to the camera)and 86 (to power the relay). I then spliced into the Orange/green wire and wired it to 85 (this wire is normally hot, until shifting into reverse). Then the last wire, 87 to camera. It wont hurt the relay to have power going to both sides of the coil normally because it cant energize it, so it wont be able to make a circuit, and it wont get hot.

30 to brown/green wire
86 to brown/green wire
85 to orange/green
87 to camera and radio

All you are doing with the relay is converting the power from the backup light from one polarity to another that is acceptable to Navtool. The relay has to have a separate +ve supply if I remember correctly.

Ok I found my notes.

On the relay I connected the Navtool orange wire to pin 87. .
A fused accessory positive to pin 30. Reverse light to pin 86.
With pin 85 I am not sure since in my note I list ground and reverse wire

If you do a search on "backup camera relay" you will see a lot of info in this forum.

I had lines on my screen when I connected the wrong black wire of the two available although it was a lot worse than what I see on your screen.

Video 2 is for the cam according to Navtool instructions.

One thing I forgot is that there is a switch inside the Navtool. I think it is for displaying or not displaying the guide lines although I cannot remember for sure. You might try switching it to see if that clears the lines. It is a digi switch.

Congratulations on getting it working. Check the bulb thats not working and also connections in that area that could be causing the orange bulb to be dim.

My problem installing the Navtool unit in my 2008 XJ8 L...I can't get the phone or 6disc cd player to work again...any help would be appreciated? I'm about to remove the Navtool unit and pitch it...it shouldn't be this hard!

Thanks in advance for any assistance out there.
