Just in case... (I actually need to resell the 00 alternator)

That is exactly what I would do. I have done many a trip to my local salvage yards in my quest to make my 87 Merc 560 SEL yet another daily driver and have scored some hard to find parts for cheap. Granted, I never see X350s in the yards - ebay may be another option.

If there was a wrecker near here I would do that.
It is like the alternator rebuilder I found an hour away that ended up saying they could not rebuild my alternator.
I am not near anything of use here in MD !
I was even considering buying a used one off Ebay however the ones I looked at were pretty high mileage. Way over my 106,000 that I have on mine.
I placed the order with Merriam so hopefully it will get here soon.
Now I will "extract" this alternator over the next 2 days in frigid temps!
At least I have it down to an exact science now.

This is what I am getting from the Ebay alternator seller.
"The seller sent you a message
MessageI am glad you mentioned it. We have had this issue before, the battery has to be a original Jaguar battery or the voltage will remain low. We can guarantee if you buy and install a new battery from the jaguar dealer it will bring the voltage up to 15.1 it has happened to us countless times before".

I know it's not an alternator but with a bit of searching you might save hundreds, literally..
Narrow down to your VIN range.

What they meant to say is "original Jaguar alternator".
Battery brand will have zero issue and not cause the battery light to illuminate.
It's the proprietary parts inside the original factory alternators that causes this issue.
And 15.1V is too high anyways. Clearly they don't know what they're talking about.

I did not know that about dealer supplied batteries!
I do think the BCM controls the charge which is why voltage output is higher when cold as opposed to when the engine is warm.
Ok just read Box's post on another battery thread and it is the regulator that controls the voltage.

So installed the Jaguar OEM alternator from Merriam and the battery light still comes on.
I am getting 14.25 volts at cold idle across the battery terminals. Thats significantly higher than the last alternator.
On my 2013 Range Rover I get 15 + volts at cold idle.
Anyway this is it as I am darned if I know what the issue is. I will use my iCarsoft 930 tomorrow to see if that pulls anything and then I will run the JLR SDD software.
However I know its charging and I will get used to seeing the battery red light.

Don't know what to think about these cars on occasion; They do act more than a bit different from any other cars i've ever had. Was putting air in the new to me 2007 VDP's tires, the caps were on very tight. Air in three tires gave three different pressures, the forth one was made of steel plated with chrome, & rusted in tight enough to break the stem when pliers were used to try to remove the cap. The spare had a sensor in it, which then turned the check the air pressure in left rear tire out in less than half a mile. Told me to check the pressure in spare tire in the trunk, which is a good thing to remind you of in case you forget. The new sensor installed in the wheel, took about three to five miles to turn the yellow tire light off. Put the same spare back into the trunk, bolted it back down, just like before. The same warning is still coming on EVERY time the car is started, for several seconds to remind you to check the pressure in spare tire. (W T F?) Figure it will eventually clear itself, too bad i do not know how to clear it from reminding me to address something, addressed already!!!!

At this point I would insure with SDD, what the ECU is seeing. Also, I would do point to point testing of the leads. One of the issues with our series' charging system, (4.2l) is that many of the replacement voltage regulators, if not specified, may have N/C on terminals which send voltage to the ECU. Just sayin'...
