Default Best Money I ever Spent – Coil Spring Conversion

I just recently completed the conversion of my jag to coil springs. I tried to keep the air system after experiencing problems but the jag dealer in my area could not be trusted to properly diagnose and fix the problem.

Therefore, I decided to spend my money once and to remove the possibility of any future problems even if I could have fixed it. Bought the Arnott C3270 conversion kit and I am completely happy with it. I cannot tell the difference between the two systems. Wished I had done so when I first started having problems; could have saved myself a lot of money, stress and problems. Hopes this helps someone else.

Good words and reasoning. I'm running the C2745 setup. These systems are a solid Plan B option in quality and ride comfort that most aren't going to care or even notice the difference on. Best part is it's entirely reversible if you leave the other components intact to go back to air later. I plan to as well but was simply cost prohibitive last year.

Sentinelist; I agree the whole process is totally reversible. But when I think about the peace of mind that I now have and not having to deal with the problems posed by the cold weather to the system I don't think im going back. I am thinking about selling all of my air shocks. I have 4 Arnott shocks and 3 of them are less than a year old. Anyone interested in them just hit me up.

I'm in the same boat. Started with a leak check, and then a compressor rebuild. When I pulled the airline off of the compressor a lot of water poured out, which I knew was a bad sign. When I pulled the dryer out, it was full of water, and the valves were rusted beyond cleaning. I gave it a shot, but the air system still was useless; it would take 2 or 3 minutes to level in the morning on startup, throw an error within 5 minutes of driving, and sag pretty quickly. I had two or three leaks at the valve body, and one on top of one strut, but the amount of water I found in the compressor told me there would be water pumped throughout the system, so I'd have corrosion everywhere. Put the Arnotts on it, and like the OP, couldn't be happier with the car.

The way I see it, air suspension has a very limited life, so even if you spend trillions of dollars and get everything perfect, you (or the next owner) will have to do it all over again in to 10 years max.

Put steel springs on it, the way God intended cars to be sprung, and:

There is absolutely that as well and also factored into my decision. How annoying/awkward/costly/dangerous/inconvenient/etc. is it when the system suddenly fails? Especially if you're far from home? Answer is very.

It appears Arnott doesn't buy back or rebuild their own or the OE air cores for some reason, though they do for Mercedes. Also annoying. I haven't thrown mine away yet but see little other avenue for these. Hoping I find an answer in the next few weeks or they may incredulously have to go in the dumpster.

Coils R The Way 2 Go.....I also wanted to report that after the conversion the car sits about inch higher in the rear than factory height. And I love it....makes the car look as Janet said not nasty but nicety.....makes it look like a jag spos to look. I'll post some pics in a few days once I learn how.

It is also a nice thing for getting in and out. the one thing I hated about my X300, was trying to get out. I have some mobility issues, and just getting my foot past the A pillar was a challenge, and at that, the door needed to be completely open to get my foot to the pavement. The coil spring X350 is almost as easy to exit as my pickup truck, and you can kind of 'fall' out of that.

Having driven in two xj's with different coil sping conversions (one was with Eibachs and Billsteins) ...I like my air bags. And I dont think 100,000 plus miles is a limited lifespan to have a failure. At least with both my xj's no issues till after 100,000 k. WIth one I blew out a bag.....That was fin...The other I have a slow leak in the winter only. Now I do have some sort of electrical issue in one I need sorted that gives me an air suspension code among others. Buit it isn't the sensors, compressor or bags. I checked them all.....Jaguar life...

You know, I wouldn't trust those Jag dealer wannabe mechanics for an engine oil change, and they certainly wouldn't know anything about troubleshooting an air suspension system.
