Default Both cigar lighter fuses blown. FIXED

Anyone have any insight was this might have happened? both 15A fuses in the trunk fuse box were blown upon purchase (6 years old). After replacing, the lighters work & haven't blown fuses. An additional question is this: the front lighter doesn't "latch" when pushed in. Simply time for a replacement of it? By the way, looks like the lighters were rarely, if ever used.

This is usually caused by a faulty power cord of a device that was previously plugged into the cigar lighter. Usually a short in a cord will blow the first fuse, then they will move on to the next outlet and blow that one too. Once you have replaced the fuses you won't have anything to worry about.

As for the lighter not latching - a very wise member of this forum provided the following information when I had the same problem. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, so if you do and it works, I'd love to hear back from you

Look in the lighter socket and you will see two fingers at the bottom directly across from each other. Those work kind of like pinchers and pinch the lighter element when you push it in. The fingers are actually bi-metal pieces so when the lighter heats up they bend slightly 'til they release the element and it pops out. Some accessory power plugs push these fingers outward some and they don't hold the lighter anymore. Be sure the power is off, and tweak the fingers inward slightly with a small screwdriver. That will make them hold on to the lighter longer so it heats up properly.

Default Perfect now.

Fairlane - your suggestion was spot-on. I did exactly that & it worked like a charm. Many thanks.

This is an old thread but hoping somebody has a quick answer for me:

I replaced the fuse for the rear lighter and now one of them works, but not the other. Am I missing something? I'm assuming the single 15 amp fuse is for both.

Related, the wiring diagram I'm looking at has 2 wires going to each lighter, but my 2008 has 3 wires going into the rear lighters --any insight?

Well, I kept digging and discovered that there is a "rear accessory socket" and a "rear cigar lighter". Fuses F26 and F43 in the trunk fuse block.

They appear identical in every respect but thought I'd share in case someone gets stuck like me.
