Default Broken latch on front center armrest

My 2007 VDM front center armrest latches are broken in two places. The latch on the pad that covers the cup holder and the other is the latch that holds down the entire armrest pad. I tried to remove the plastic insert by slowly easing it out from the front but couldn't get it completely out, as it seems to be catching at the rear and I am afraid to continue forcing it out and cracking the cupholder insert. If I can remove the entire insert, I would have access to the hinge bracket screws that hold the armrest pad in place and replace it with a pad that doesn't have broken latches. What could be holding the rear of the insert from slipping out? Can I assume it is just a tight fit and just force it out? Apparently the armrest latches being plastic are rather fragile. Thanks for any insight.
